New England Farmers Union advocates for programs in the farm bill such as the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). Recently, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Vermont announced an EQIP signup deadline of March 20, 2015. Farmers are reminded that the deadline to apply is approaching and they are encouraged to submit applications by this date to be evaluated and considered for funding in fiscal year 2015. Applications received after March 20 will be accepted and evaluated for future rounds of funding.

EQIP, one of USDA’s most popular conservation programs, is offered through a continuous signup, but NRCS periodically makes application selections as funding allows. Last year, Vermont NRCS provided more than $8.9 million in EQIP financial assistance to farmers.
